On the fifth and final day of Donald Trump’s second Senate impeachment trial, Senators vote 57-43 to convict Trump and formally impeach him. However, the 57 votes are not enough.
Following his acquittal, Mitch McConnell — who just voted to acquit — gives a 20-minute speech about how Trump is obviously guilty of inciting the attack on the Capitol. McConnell’s excuse for acquitting Trump is that he doesn’t think a president should be impeached unless they’re still in office.
It was McConnell who stopped the trial from beginning before Trump left office.
